Octanove Institute

Octanove Institute is a distributed AI research lab focused on intelligence augmentation (IA)

Advancing the state of the art in intelligence augmentation (IA)

IA is a broad, growing field for supporting human intelligence with AI. It focuses on AI systems that work with humans by augmenting human users’ intelligence and capabilities. We achieve this by publishing papers, articles, and open source projects.

Providing accessible AI education and training to members

Octanove Institute provides accessible AI education to institute students (“members”) through hands-on, real-world projects. Members can join the institute from anywhere in the world remotely.

Providing accessible AI talent and expertise to sponsors

Octanove Institute is financially supported by industry sponsors, who receive various perks in return, which include: usage rights to the institute’s intellectual properties, AI training and consulting to sponsor employees, seminars, subscription to institute publication (paid blog), etc.

What we do

Intelligence augmentation (IA) is a broad, growing field for supporting human intelligence with AI. Its goal is to develop AI systems that work with humans by augmenting human users’ intelligence and capabilities. Stanford HAI hosted a conference on IA in early 2021.

Sponsors

Octanove Institute is financially supported by industry sponsors, who receive various benefits in return:

  • Non-exclusive usage rights to the institute’s intellectual properties
    • Sponsors will have non-exclusive, commercial usage rights to the AI models and datasets that the institute develops, which are usually published under a non-commercial license. “Non-exclusive” here means that this will be shared by all the sponsors.
  • AI consulting and training
    • Sponsors can join the internal online community (most likely a Slack workspace) and receive AI consulting from the institute on their own AI problems during the office hours. The institute may also accept the sponsor’s employees as visiting members and offer AI training, depending on the capacity and the budget. The visiting members can bring in their own projects from their affiliates and retain all the related IPs.
  • Publications and seminars
    • Sponsors can subscribe to the institute’s member-only publications (e.g., State of AI guides) as well as the exclusive seminars (most likely quarterly or semi-annually).
  • Collaborative research
    • The institute and the sponsor may engage in collaborative research projects. The IP of the research outcomes will be shared by both parties.
  • Access to the institute’s talent pool
    • Sponsors can recruit from the institute’s talent pool. This includes the members’ profiles and contact info.
